Background Concept:

The world has become such a small place, so the importance of peace, pluralism, tolerance and human rights has increased enormously. What happens in one area can impact the rest of the world, sometimes quickly and dramatically. In the midst of this potentially frightening situation are expansive opportunities to make the world a better place for ourselves and future generations. This is true for the whole world; MG Foundation focuses its aspirations and efforts on Pakistan.

Pakistan is a comparatively new country, being only sixty years old, but the land and its people have a very long and rich history. There are archeological sites dating back to 11000 years B.C. spread all over the area now known as Pakistan. These sites provide evidence that this part of the world was a seat of learning and arts where diverse people co-existed in peace and harmony. Pakistan was created with a vision of moderation, ordered progress, evolutionary politics, democratic norms, and above all, constitutionalism. Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, father of the nation, lead the creation of the new, moderate state, but unfortunately he died only a year after independence. The country has faced a number of challenges since then and overcome a lot of them. The latest challenge is fundamentalism and the turn towards orthodox Islam. According to the American historian, Dr. Stanley Wolpert, it will take a strong commitment of those who believe in Jinnah's vision of Pakistan to educate the nation about their human rights and then fight for them.

If you look at a map of the world, you see that Pakistan has a very strategic location in geo-politics today, sharing borders with Iran, Afghanistan, Russia, China and India. Both internal and external forces are constantly trying to manipulate for their own benefit the Pakistani people, politicians and government. This makes life in Pakistan very difficult even though the majority want to live in peace. The MG Foundation was established to support Pakistani people in their struggle for human rights. We welcome all who want to work for peace and justice to join with us.
