Programs of Mehergarh(Pakistan):
  • Ana Al Haq:  Youth leadership training camps: The main focus of the program will be to identify progressive-minded young people from rural and urban areas throughout Pakistan who, with training, will play significant roles in fostering social change in their own communities and be part of a nation-wide network of human rights activists and future leaders.

  • Meher Kaar: Youth Volunteers: The objective of this program is to initiate a volunteer based program for youth to interact with the masses on simplehuman rights issues to connect with people on a human level.

  • Program for Peace & Pluralism: The work on Peace and Pluralism has gone on by the core members of Mehergarh for the last six years.  The program under Mehergarh will target the growing trends of intolerance in the society. It will explore the underlying patterns and dynamics of pluralism in the context of Pakistan, evolve short and long term initiatives for building tolerance and appreciation for pluralism and link with other initiatives and organization in Pakistan and internationally to give impetus to the overall efforts.

    • Civil Action: The objective of this program is to carry out civil action, which will provide the young participants with an opportunity to be part of authentic social activism. These actions will be undertaken after careful deliberations and adequate training. Among the key ones will be a campaign with AASHA, an Alliance Against Sexual Harassment.

    • Promoting Cultural Action for Social Change: The objective of this program is to promote cultural understanding in the general community and using cultural action for social change. Theater, songs, music, and storytelling can often bring about more effective and sustainable change in people’s thinking than intellectual debate.

  • Research & Publications: The objective of this program is to generate research and publications that will inform and support actions in a spirit of open inquiry. Research is required to better understand the complexities of social issues in Pakistan. It will be targeted towards developing training materials, designing new initiatives for cultural action and civil action programs and for conducting Impact assessments of the programs.
  • An evolving project on Bonded Labor: Under the Civil Action Program of MeherGarh, members have been actively working on the issue of bonded labor. They work on three different levels: making people aware of the issue; documenting women’s perspectives and helping individual families get out of bondage.
